ZVEI brochure on Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)

The results of the "MES" ZVEI working group - of which ProLeiT is an active member - have now been published after several years of intensive work:
On the basis of task definitions from various industrial sectors, including benefit-cost analyses from different perspectives, this brochure provides a systematic overview of efficient production control. The ZVEI brochure serves both as a reference document and as a guideline for the introduction or realignment of MES projects.

Target groups include decision makers from the fields of production, automation of production and operational management, and also specialists and IT experts responsible for the implementation of MES projects.
The brochure deals with the IEC 62264 (S95) standard and VDI (VDI 5600) and NAMUR guidelines in a systematic and practice-oriented manner. Detailed tables provide basic information for decision makers - no matter whether they are in charge of production, quality, stock keeping or maintenance issues. These four core areas are presented in a comprehensive manner for all industrial sectors and thus also enable the identification of area-independent activities.
Meticulously selected economic aspects, which can be transferred to different task definitions, provide the basis for unusual and new perspectives.

The ZVEI- MES brochure presents the following topics:

  • Market requirements and motivation for the use of MES
  • MES and normative standards (VDI 5600 / IEC 62264)
  • Classification of the process model in accordance with IEC 62264
  • Typical MES modules and related terms
  • Use, purpose and environment of MES tools by the example of characteristic fields of application
  • Major correlations and differences between MES applications in the process and manufacturing industry
  • How to proceed for MES projects – Practical tips
  • Added value and benefits (first-hand reports)

The brochure is available in German for download at the ZVEI web site. Alternatively, a printed copy also in German can be ordered at cost. The English version is expected to be available by the end of the year.
